The Christian Century

The Christian Century is an ecumenical biweekly magazine that links Christian faith and contemporary life. It seeks to “focus on the application of Christian principles to character and social problems” and to “articulate a truly theological vision of human nature and destiny . . . paying attention to the biblical texts, to classic theological questions, and to the church’s task of spiritual formation.”

Marty was formerly the book review editor for the magazine as well as a contributing, associate, and then senior editor. He also has written a regular column for the Century for more than four decades, first in the form of the anonymous “Pen-ultimates” and now under the name M.E.M.O. In retirement he serves the magazine chiefly through the M.E.M.O column.
